Dr. 'BK' Friedman DDS, DABFO, ACD, a prominent forensic scientist, dentist, war veteran, and family man, died peacefully at St. Josephs Hospital in Bethpage on Tuesday, March 10th. He was 88 years old. BK served several tours in the US Army and Air Force. In the wake of World War II, he worked as a Technical Sergeant in the 343rd Combat Engineers Company. After his return, he attended Hunter College before moving on to NYU Dentistry School. After graduating from NYU a certified dentist, he served his second term of duty as a Captain in the US Air Force training others in the art of oral surgery and periodontics at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio Texas. Subsequently, he maintained a dental practice for 59 years in Amityville, New York. He prided himself on his work, and he was still working on the day he died. Regardless of his schedule or ailments, he always took time to take a phone call from his children and loving relatives. In addition, BK Friedman was a respected forensic scientist within the community. He helped to create the Suffolk County Mass Disaster Team, a group of forensic scientists that assisted in cataclysmic events such as Flight 800 and the bombings of 9/11. He also served as the Forensic Dentist for Suffolk County and was a certified Forensic Odontologist. BK was influential in the closing of countless cases for the Suffolk County Medical Examners Office, over the past 40+ years, many of which were high profile. BK Friedman never retired. He died a working dentist and beloved father. He is survived by his four children; Lisa, Karl, Lesley and Daniel, his seven grandchildren, Ryan, Daniel, Michael, PJ, Katie, Kalman and Seren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. There will not be a religious service however, we have reserved time and greatly appreciate anyone who has a thought about him, an amusing story or something else to say to come and share it with his Family and Friends on Saturday at 12pm. There will be no viewing of Dr. Friedman.
