Obituary of Arthur C. Drescher

Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Arthur has passed away at Tampa General Hospital on September 11, 2015, with family by his side. He was born on June 5, 1933, the oldest son of Ruth and Arthur Drescher Sr., in Brooklyn, NY. He attended P.S. 134 in Hollis, Queens. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Anchorage, Alaska. That was followed by a few years as an Army Reservist. As a young man, he embarked upon what would eventually become his lifelong devotion, a career of refrigeration and appliance sales and repair, alongside his father. He remained in the family business and later passed his talents on to his son, Kevin. He was the oldest brother of three: middle brother Robert (predeceased; wives Andrea, then Mary), and is survived by his youngest brother, Allen, and his wife, Lee. Arthur and his first wife, Dawn, raised four children: Debbie (husband Terry), Donna, Kevin (fiancé Susan), and Danielle (predeceased). Later on, he married Gina (divorced and predeceased) and had daughter, Melissa (husband Jason). From his marriage to Gina, he also had three step-children, Gina, Patty and Raymond. Through his five children he was blessed with twelve grandchildren: Debbie, Darlene (husband Shaun), Danielle (fiancé Mike), Ricky (wife Melanie), Joseph (wife Nicole), Cheryl, Kimberly, Michael (wife Michelle), Melissa, Artie, Madeline, and Kara, and also fourteen great-grandchildren: Julia, Sara, Thomas, James, Austin, Andrew, Cooper, Ryan, Trenton, Devin, Lily, Sadie, Maddy, and Brooklyn. He has also been survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and good friends. Throughout his life, his passions included boating and fishing, hunting, and making others laugh either through his witty charm or practical jokes. He's always been very natural with children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, when he would babysit or just spend time with them. Some of the best times of his life were also when he'd tie up his family boat, The Saga Four, to those of other friends and family members. He loved every moment he had by the water. During his years in Englewood, Florida, Art spent much of his time with his special lady Julianna Hogan. They were devoted friends and companions to each other. As special as she was to Arthur, she is just as special to his family and always will be. He also had many other friends and acquaintances in Englewood that he spoke very highly of. Friends and family are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences, and fond memories at the celebration of his life service on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home at 67 Broadway, Amityville, NY 11701. In lieu of sending flowers, we ask that you make donations to Disabled American Veterans @ www.dav.org, 1-877-426-2838 or PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250-0301.
