Obituary of Gladys J. Tourigny

Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gladys J. Tourigny, 91, of Massapequa, passed away peacefully on March 21st, 2024, at home. A beloved wife of 62 years to Yvon Tourigny. Cherished mother to Denise (Jose Martinez), Suzanne Farrell (John), Gregory and Gary (Karen Miller). Grandmother to Ian Farrell, Sophia, and Sara. Treasured sister to Rosemarie (deceased), Corinne (Andy Recco deceased) and Priscilla (Ron Doane deceased). Dear Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Gladys, a true “Yankee Doodle Dandy” was born on July 4th, 1932, in Manhattan, to John and Millie Correnti. A lifetime New Yorker: she spent her childhood in Queens and lived her adult life on Long Island.

She loved music (playing guitar and singing from an early age) as well as movies, the arts and had a passion for food and cooking -especially Italian food!  All these things she passed down to her children. She enjoyed spending time at the beach and trips to Montauk. An avid collector: she was particularly fond of Elvis memorabilia, Lighthouses, jewelry, and scarves.

Her wonderful, lighthearted sense of humor and her luck of often having things go wrong earned her the nickname “Murphy” after the classic Murphy’s Law.

She treated everyone with kindness and always kept her home open (especially “the basement”) to the friends of her children. She continued to be a friendly face to so many local kids while working as a secretary within the Amityville School District for 35 years.

She will be extremely missed by her family and friends.
